Pizza By The Bay – Buffet lunch

I’ve always loved having a soup, salad and sandwich meal. I’ve also always loved the PBTB (Pizza by the Bay) food. However, with so many new restaurants opening up, I hadn’t been to PBTB for a buffet for many years. Finally when there recently with family.

The restaurant has been recently re-decorated. Its done-up very tastefully. They now have tall glass windows that look out towards the sea. We managed to get a round table near the windows. Its was a wonderful meal – food, ambiance and the company. We spent a leisure almost 2 hours over the buffet. Of course, as usual, after an absolutely satiating meal, went home and slept.

The buffet is a soup, salads, sandwiches and desserts menu. There is a veg and non-vegetarian soup, served on the table with a basket of soft breads and crunchy sticks. The vegetarian minestrone soup as well as chicken soup were amazing.

The salads spread was outstanding. They had almost over 20 vegetarian salads, of which about 5-6 of them were without onion and garlic. For the non-vegetarians too, there were no less than 10 salads – I’m sure of it. All the salads were well flavoured and one could easily go for seconds. However, since the salads are so many and I wanted to try all, or as many as I could, I really couldn’t go back for seconds (I yet had to have the sandwiches and desserts)! The only drawback that I found in the salads was that though they were all well flavoured, there just one or two salads that were not dry-ish (like a mayo based salad). However, its easily forgotten when the spread is so good.

There are about 10 listed sandwiches. We ordered the chili cheese, Mediterranean and beef sandwiches between 5 of us. The chili cheese sandwich was the best, the other two coming a close second.

Finally the desserts. Very good, especially when we came to know they were eggless! Most of the desserts were great, just a couple of them were not very good.

Wow. What a meal. At Rs. 800 all inclusive, we were very very happy.Oh. I almost forgot. One of us took the Rs. 1400 buffet which includes the Four Seasons wine – red or white, unlimited. We took red. I strongly recommend this Rs. 1400 buffet as the wine pairs very well the complete buffet menu. This buffet is a must experience.

Was passing by Dadar and decided to do a pick up dinner.

They have a pretty exhaustive menu for a restaurant their size.

I felt like having pasta for dinner. The person across the counter suggested A la tikka pasta since I wanted something spicy. I agreed – A la tikka – what could that taste like?, I wondered. Hubby ordered a Non-veg club sandwich. Our parcel was ready in 20 mins. and we went home.

Dinner time – The A la tikka pasta was accompanied by 2 herbed breads. What can I say to the taste but – interesting, very interesting. Its a very interesting fusion of an international dish with an absolute Indian flavour. And spicy it was – just the right amount. The pasta has a good amount of paneer and cheese. The herbed breads were good, but they were ‘herbed’ a bit too strongly. Would have been a perfect accompaniment to the pasta if the herbs were sprinkled in lesser quantity. Its a heavy and wholesome meal. At Rs. 225, its absolutely VFM. Would I order it again – yes but would ideally like to try their other dishes first.

The Non-veg club sandwich. Price Rs. 200.

Hubby’s instant reaction on opening the box – its not grilled! Well, we assumed they would grill it or would have asked otherwise what we wanted. So, that was a disappointment. As the wafers are just dunked into the side of the box, which is not air-tight, they were completely wilted and soggy : (

Plus point to this sandwich was the size – the portion size was good. Look below for a picture of a single half of the sandwich.

The taste of the club sandwich was very average. Grilled would have tasted better (even their menu says so). The coleslaw was decent.

I will definitely try this place out for other options.

Leo’s Boulangerie

I love this place. During a period of 1 month, I would have visited this place about 5 times!

I have the pics of all the food I have eaten there except their Chutney n Cheese sandwich. Its really good. The sandwich reminds me of the one you get at NCPA when attending the theatre there. Only difference is that the sandwiches at Leo’s are bigger with more chutney and cheese. Priced at Rs. 60.

Recently for dinner, I had their Danish Croissant and Veg. Quiche. The Danish croissant has a corn and cheese filling with corn sprinkled on top of the croissant. I loved picking out the burnt corn and eating it and then I dived into the croissant. Its a lovely croissant.

The Veg. Quiche is a spinach, mushroom and cheese person’s delight. Its got a lovely texture and is almost a melt-in-your-mouth savoury. It looks like a medium sized quiche but it packs a load of taste. For its size, its quite a tummy-filler.

Finally, the Chocolate croissant – obviously : )

Its a nice big-looking croissant. Looking at it makes you salivate.

However, it flattens on pressing it slightly and fits well into the mouth. The chocolate flavour is good but find the layer too thin. I would have preferred if the chocolate layer was a tad bit more. However, I would still pick it up as an after-meal dessert if my meal has been a light one.

All the three savouries above are priced at Rs. 50 each.

I’ve eaten the veg pizza twice. The first time, I liked it a lot. However, the second time, though the taste was the same, it had a strong flavour of garlic, which I didn’t like – so will be hesitant to pick it up again.

Yet more things to try at Leo’s !

Oven Fresh

logoI have always loved this place. Its a pure vegetarian restaurant and it serves amazingly delicious food. Its been a long time since I eaten there. Knowing my liking for this joint, my hubby got me my dinner from there last week.

Dinner consisted of 2 sandwiches – Pickled aubergine and oven roasted vegetables in Mediterranean spice bread and Saute spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and feta cheese in warm brioche bread. Both are priced at Rs. 205 each + taxes.

Don’t they look appetizing? Any one sandwich is sufficient for dinner. Add a coffee and you are completely satiated. I loved the first sandwich – the aubergine one. Its perfect. I have eaten many-a-similar sandwiches like it but what sets this apart is that it has thinly sliced apples too. This gives the sandwich a very interesting taste. This is a must-have sandwich.

The latter one, the spinach is average. It too has the apple slices but I’ve eaten better spinach sandwiches elsewhere. This sandwich is served in 4 portions (my pic has half the sandwich).

This bakery turned a year old in January 2014. Its located at Colaba, between the market and postoffice, on the main road. I have passed-by this route numerous times, seen this bakery but somehow never got my foot in.

Finally, went there last evening. Wanting a light eat for dinner, picked up a vegetarian fare of pizza and puff.

veg pizza n puff

veg pizza n puff

The pizza at Rs. 4o is a 4 1/2″ pizza with a good amount of filling and cheese (the american corn pieces are a tad too many). Its got a good flavour and makes a very good mini meal with the puff. The puff at Rs 20 is a spinach and paneer stuffed savory. The puff is light and its almost a melt-in-the-mouth mini feast. I really enjoyed this light dinner, which I had with homemade coffee. I am gonna go to this place more often – I mean it! Its good, fresh and tasty.

The bakery is well designed and has an extensive menu. It boasts of cakes, pastries, breads, cookies, brownies, sandwiches and savories such as quiche, rolls, croissants. Next, I am keen on trying are their breads and quiche.

Starbucks

I’m quite a fan of Starbucks but today’s experience was saddening.

Did a takeway breakfast. Ordered a Star Club Sandwich and a Mediterranean Cheese Roulade. On opening the parcel, the sandwich had slid open a bit as they had put the sandwich vertically instead of horizontally in the carry-bag! Basic mistake.

The Mediterranean Cheese Roulade looked tempting.

Mediterranean Cheese Roulade

Mediterranean Cheese Roulade

The first bite into the about 6″ roulade was nice – soft with a smooth cheesy layer and pepper bits. Bite 2 – only bread! What happened to the filling? sectioned the bread open. OMG! only one side had the filling, the other side was totally bland – only plain bread. I felt totally cheated, especially because I didn’t expect this from STARBUCKS and also then the price I’m paying for it being a STARBUCKS product. SEE SEE.

The good about this roulade – flavour is good and it is a satisfying breakfast/anytime meal. Bad about it is that the filling is lop-sided and lesser.

A plus point to Starbucks is that they gave mustard sauce sachets, whereas most eateries / restaurants don’t.

Aloo Tikki with Marinated Peppers Burger

Last night wasn’t too hungry, so I decided to try a new recipe. It was a marinated peppers sandwich. However, since I had the burger buns, made a the change.  Its marinated peppers on a bed f paneer paste.
