I took the easy way out this time. I used Shan’s Bombay Biryani Masala. (See following post to know more about the masala). The result –

To cook the mutton, it took an hour but must say that the result was good. I got an 8 on 10 from hubby dear for this. What I liked about making with this ready masala was that it was easy to make and the biryani was not dry. It had a good thickened gravy-finish. Served it with kachumbar raita.

MTR Madras Sambar Powder
I used this powder to make Sambar last night . I served it with idlis (see earlier post) and malgapoodi chutney (post to follow).
Years ago if anyone told me to use MTR products, I would have desisted – and desisted hard. However, in the past few months, I have been using a lot of their products – and I am impressed. REALLY. I highly recommend MTR brands now. Most of the foodstuff I really really like and some like this is decent.
To make sambar – using Madras Sambar powder is quite decent. Just follow the directions on the back of the packet and sambar is ready. The only addition I made to this recipe was I added red chili powder for more a spicy flavour.

Availability in Mumbai: I picked this pack when I was in Bangalore. I’m not sure if its available in Mumbai as I have checked a couple of grocery shops here and they don’t stock this product from the MTR range. However, it is easily available in any of the store in South India.

I’m not a great fan of olives but tried this brand on the pizza I made. (see earlier post). I must say I was pleasantly happy with the flavour of these olives. I definitely and highly recommend this brand. The flavour is strong but very well balanced. It imparts its taste with the other ingredients smoothly – it has its distinct flavour but at the same time it also lets the other tastes through.
The size of these olives are about 1 and 1/2 inches! Each!
