Boiled Egg Bhurji

Boiled egg bhurji

Boiled egg bhurji

Its a take-off from the classic Egg Bhurji. All ingredients are similar to the egg bhurji, except eggs are boiled and vegetables are sliced in this case.

When I cook this, I usually roll into into a chapati and it becomes a good on-the-go snack.

Cheval Bar & Restaurant

Last night Cheval was hosting an event wherein as a homage to MJ, they mainly played his songs. MJ – Michael Jackson – the ultimate entertainer – was still getting many a people swaying on their feet.

Picture this – A large bar-room, dimly lit, playing MJ and the 1980’s – 1990’s music. The Manager who knows his drinks, waiters who are extremely attentive, exceptional cocktails, sumptuous food and conversation in high decibels with a friend. It was an absolute heady mix.

The bill / cheque arrived. I was really happy to see that Cheval, apart from the mandated Service Tax, levied no Service Charge.

When I visit a restaurant, I would like to leave a tip proportional to the experience I had. In Mumbai, almost all restaurants now add a service charge of 10% irrespective of the food and service provided. We tipped well and left the bar with a happy feeling.

Tumbled into bed, completely gratified.

On the whole experience, I’ve given Cheval a 5 on 5.

Recipe – Chicken Stewed Rice

Chicken stewed rice

Chicken stewed rice

Ingredients

2 cups Chicken stock

2-3 tbsps. Cornflour mixed in little water – to get a dripping consistency.

1 spring onion – diced into big pieces

some finely chopped spring onion greens

1/2 green capsicum – diced into big pieces

2 finely chopped green chilies

salt as per taste

1 tsp soy sauce

1 garlic pod chopped finely

1/4 tsp garlic paste

1-2 tbsps oil

8-10 pieces boiled chicken – boneless

1 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves

1/2 cup boiled rice

Method:

1. Warm oil in a vessel.

2. Add chopped garlic. Add garlic paste. Fry on a slow flame for a few seconds.

3. Add diced onions and capsicum. Cook on a medium to slow flame for a couple of minutes or till onions are slightly translucent.

4. Add green chilies.

5. Add boiled chicken and cook on slow flame for a couple of minutes again, till all the flavours are infused.

6. Pour in the soy sauce. Mix.

7. Add chicken stock and bring to a boil. Add salt as required.

8. Add in the coriander leaves. Cook for 3 minutes on a medium to high flame.

9. Add in the cornflour batter gradually, stirring continuously till gravy starts to thicken. On a medium flame cook gravy till required consistency is obtained.

10. Garnish with onion greens.

This gravy is then mixed with boiled rice and served immediately.

My notes:

For chicken stock – take boneless chicken, water, celery stalks and salt. Cook till chicken softens. Discard celery. Use stock as well as chicken for above recipe. Even plain water can be used as stock. just increase the time to cook in step 5 and 7 by a minute or two each. There will be a small difference in taste only.

Prem Sandwich

But I actually am recommending this place for tea or lets say chai. Its the best cutting-chai I have had from any street vendor. Prem Sandwich Stall is located at Colaba.  Just outside the main entrance to Shakhari Bhandar, opposite Regal cinema. Ig you get a chance to see him make the tea from scratch, its a treat – he adds so many masalas and brews it to perfection. Its the archetypal chai we all like.

At RS. 6 for a cutting chai in the typical small glass – glass. If you are concerned about hygiene, ask for the tea in a plastic glass but the fun, feel and taste is in having from their glass glasses . This cutting chai gets a 5 on 5.

Chicken Stewed Rice

Chicken stewed rice

Chicken stewed rice

Made this last night for hubby’s dinner.  I made some extra stew so that it could be had again. But, no such luck – but I’m happy. Basically chicken stewed rice is rice dunked in chicken stew. Its one of the easier Chinese dishes to make. Below is just the photograph of the chicken stew.

Black Peppered Paneer

Black peppered paneer

Black peppered paneer

I tried this recipe for the first time. Its from a cook-book, by a group of housewives, who compiled this book to honour their guru – Swami Chinmayananda.

The beauty of this recipe is in its simplicity, ease of making and an absolute delight in eating. Once you have the paneer (bought or made at home), its a few minutes to tantalizing your taste buds. Serve with chutney or by itself.

Next time I make this, I’m going to add boiled potatoes. Then, I’m going to make a wrap with the chutney and these peppered paneer and potatoes and VOILA – wholesome snack ready!

McDonald’s

McDonald’s has recently launched Veg Crispy Pops.

Veg Crispy Pops

Veg Crispy Pops

They are a set of 6 at a price of Rs 26 (including service tax). Sized like a marble or maybe just a tad bigger in size, they are reasonably good. I would give them a 3.5 on a 5 but my hubby did not like them much. I don’t know anyone else who has tried these as yet, so there is a 50% chance, you would like them too.

Prego Restaurant

logoI really, really like this restaurant. Been here twice in two months.

I love the presentation of the foods and the quantities are very decent. Every course, is sufficient for  one. Yesterday, for lunch we ordered Bell pepper tomato soup, Creamy chicken soup, Margherita pizza, a Beef steak slider and a Herbed focacia sandwich. Last month had ordered Creamy chicken soup with Grilled chicken breast with pepper sauce and Vegetable lasagna. Prices are exclusive of taxes and they charge a 10% service fee.

Maggi pack

Nestle’s Maggi has always been on the top of easy to make and love to eat foods for everyone. Many other brands have tried to replicate the taste and flavour but no one has come closer. Now, someone has – finally! Guess who?

Nestle’s Maggi – MAGICAL MASALA !!!

Yes, Nestle has outdone themselves. First I enjoyed eating Maggi’s Masala flavour, but now I only want Magical Masala. After sampling this, you won’t want to go back to the plain masala one – really. The Magical Masala packs a whole load of delicious punch. Add some finely chopped green chilies and enjoy the extra zing. Enjoyment at Rs. 15

Sassanian

Shop front

Shop front

Its one of the more famous Parsi eateries / bakeries of South Mumbai.

Just came home from having breakfast there. I’ve eaten their Veg Puff, Chicken Puff. Mutton Puff and Bread Pudding in the past. However, recently I have been reading a lot about their Bun Maska (maska means butter). Knew I had to have a go at it. So, told hubby, today was the day we would go to Sassanian for breakfast.

Got a table and we ordered Masala Omelette, Bun maska, Kheema, Brun maska and tea.

The breakfast

The breakfast

kheema n brun maska

kheema n brun maska

I ordered a double masala omelette (Rs. 45) it was definitely more wholesome than other eateries. However, it had a very distinct flavour from the usual taste. I first bite I had, was delectable. However, then I ate the following bites and I got the burnt flavour. If you see the picture above, the center portion is overdone. Totally spoilt the flavour of the meal. I give this a 3 on 5 and I am open to trying it again.

The Bun maska at Rs 10, was a sweet bun with butter smeared when cut horizontally. I say smear and not smothered as I found the butter serving less and only concentrated in the center. However, flavour-wise I would recommend it as the bun was soft, sweet and melt in the mouth. Its a 4 on 5

Similarly, the Brun maska, was good too. Brun is a bun with a crusty covering. It is also priced at Rs 10. It gets a 4 on 5

Finally the Kheema – enough portion for one, for breakfast at Rs. 50. Average, so it gets a 3 on 5.

The tea is sweet and reminds me of the cup we get at the railway stations. Dip the Bun maska and eat – tastes really really good.

Overall experience gets this a 3 on 5
